Prof. Dr. Zafar Nawaz Jaspal
is a Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Quaid-I-Azam University, Islamabad, Pakistan. He teaches various aspects of Global Politics, Nuclear Studies, Conventional/Nuclear Arms Control and Disarmament, Pakistan's National Security, Emerging technologies and Hybrid Warfare.
Prof. Jaspal is a nonresident senior fellow of the Hong Kong Research Center for Asian Studies (RCAS). He was former Director at the School of Politics and International Relations, QAU. Before joining the University (in August 2002), Prof. Jaspal was a Research Fellow at the Institute of Strategic Studies, Islamabad, and the Islamabad Policy Research Institute.
Prof. Jaspal, as a Guest Speaker/Visiting Lecturer, has delivered and continues to give lectures at many professional and training institutions, including distinguished NATO School, Oberammergau, Germany; NATO Defense College Rome, Italy; Center of Excellence: Defence against Terrorism, Ankara, Turkey; National Security & War Courses of Pakistan's National Defence University; National Intelligence Academy, Intelligence Bureau Academy, Command and Staff College Quetta; Air War College, Karachi, Pakistan Navy War College, Lahore, and Foreign Service Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistan.
Prof. Jaspal's research interests include Pakistan's national security, the proliferation of nuclear weapons and missile systems, particularly in South Asia and the Middle East, Arms Control/Disarmament, Nuclear Nonproliferation Regime and Demining, trends in the global and domestic politics of Pakistan; Terrorism, particularly CBRN Terrorism; Cyber Terrorism, Landmines' Challenges in post-war regions, and Bio-security.
Prof. Jaspal is a widely published scholar with more than 125 academic research papers, monographs, and chapters in edited volumes published both nationally and internationally. He authored three books, i.e., Arms Control in South Asia: Politics, Postures, and Practices (Karachi: Paramount, 2024), India's Surgical Strike Stratagem: Brinksmanship and Responses (Islamabad, April 2019), and Nuclear Risk Reduction Measures and Restraint Regime in South Asia (New Delhi: Manohar, 2004).
Prof. Jaspal also contributes regularly to the local and international press.
